Projects

Overview

Building Air Intakes

Printing Facility - Developed an effective means to stop the recirculation of ink odors into the building air intakes.

Loading Dock Fumes - Used modeling to reveal airflow patterns around a large facility and evaluate options to minimize the recirculation of truck exhausts into building fresh air intakes.

Contaminant Control

Highly Toxic Agent - Developed comprehensive program and designed facility to ensure safe use of a highly toxic chemical in a materials testing lab. Safely used for 10 years.

Silica Control - Designed effective controls for four different plants. Exposure reduction up to 90%.

TIG Welding Booth - CFD modeling used to identify the source of beryllium exposure during welding and to demonstrate the modifications necessary to significantly reduce exposure.

Data Centers

CFD Model - Developed model of 5,000 ft2 data center to locate possible airflow distribution problems in the underfloor plenum and identify potential hot spots from the proposed placement of blade server racks.

Performance Testing - Collected extensive field testing data at three data centers to determine the airflow distribution from the underfloor plenums and characterize the performance of newly installed IT equipment.

Emergency Planning

Gas Release - Demonstrated, using a CFD model, how fumes from a stack release during upset conditions could enter an adjacent building through air intakes.

Spill Vapors - Air concentrations of acid gases were predicted following a simulated spill of process chemicals in a foundry etching facility.

General Ventilation

Foundry Vent Plan - Developed year-round ventilation strategy for a large foundry located in a cold climate area. Plans avoided the need for additional capital equipment.

Office & Process Building - Devised an overall strategy to improve IAQ and reduce complaints by establishing clearly defined air zones and flow patterns, primarily using existing HVAC systems.

Melt Shop Ventilation - CFD modeling used to develop and evaluate facility changes to reduce metal fume and heat stress exposures. A feasible year-round strategy resulted.

Hospitals

Patient Decontamination Facility - A design for a dedicated facility to decontaminate ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients was completed. Specialized ventilation was developed and modeled to minimize patient and staff exposure to chemical, biological and radioactive agents.

Emergency Department Shower Decontamination - A CFD model was developed to demonstrate expected contaminant levels in the ED vestibule during simulated patient decontamination procedures.

Process Ventilation

Large Press Exhaust - Developed a CFD model to evaluate options to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of a 100,000 cfm exhaust system on a large forging press.

Large Acid Tanks - Designed push pull systems for several 6' x 24' tanks. Successful use for over 10 years.

Metal Cutting Operations - New exhaust hoods and connecting were designed and a new fume collector was specified to revamp large scale torch and plasma cutting operations. Excellent fume capture and system performance have been reported.
